Project Description

Station No.19 is the second station designed around the Fire Department’s new prototype Fire Station. Station 20 was the original prototype completed in 2009.

Station No.19 has two single loaded bays, decontamination facilities, a shop and ample EMS supply   storage for first responders. The rest of the station, housed within a compact footprint, contains sleep rooms divided for privacy within the residential wing that also houses the toilet and shower facilities and additional sleep rooms and restroom facilities to house an additional crew unlike Station 20.

The exterior of the facility is designed to blend with the surrounding residential neighborhood, which the department has decided to incorporate in all their new construction projects to provide a civic icon for the surrounding communities. The station has a full building generator to maintain operations during power outages and the on-site fueling station allows the crew to top off the tanks without driving out of the call area, which would greatly increase response time. The site accommodates public & staff parking and allows for the bays to be pull through with drive around access on the rear of the station.

The facility is designed to meet the NC State Construction Office’s standard of a 30% reduction in energy cost as compared to the minimum building code requirements. This required more efficient lighting and HVAC along with improvements to the exterior finishes to decrease heat gain/loss inside the building.

Station 19 hosts a Police office with separate entrance.
