Buncombe County Public Safety Training Complex
Square Footage
35 acre site
Project Description
Buncombe County sought a combination of local familiarity and recognized, national public safety expertise in selecting the design team for their new Public Safety Training Complex near Asheville, NC. To address both of those needs, the County contracted with a local design firm Legerton Architecture in conjunction with Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects. That decision had subsequently yielded an extremely successful partnership, as the project remained on-schedule and within-budget through to completion.
SCNA worked closely with the Buncombe County, the host technical college and the other local design firms in all stages of Programming, Site Planning, Design and Construction Administration for the project.
An early hurdle in the project involved moving 500,000 yards of earth, due to the site’s mountainous location. This allowed for a suitable site on which to build the project and create the opportunity to properly grade the site for future additions. All three phases have been completed.
