Kannapolis, NC Fire Stations 2 & 3
Square Footage
Both Fire Stations 2 and 3 are 12,185 square feet
Project Description
Stewart-Cooper-Newell Architects worked with the City of Kannapolis Fire Department leadership on site studies and building layouts during programming phase of this project, to aid in finding the option that would best fit the needs and budget of the department.
The study resulted in a decision to demolish and replace Fire Station 2 on the same site, while Fire Station 3 would be a new building, located on a new site.
SCNA then created a prototype facility design to used on both the existing and new site. This prototype, incorporates flexible layout designs for easy expansions, which can also be used in the future as the basis for additional stations for the City of Kannapolis.
Both Fire Stations 2 and 3 are 12,185 square feet; include two drive-through bays, eight single occupant bunk rooms, with four private bathrooms. A large dayroom, kitchen and adjacent outdoor patio space for staff to gather, share meals and grill during warm weather.
At the City’s request, both facilities incorporate the look of other City buildings and are branded with their signage and Kannapolis logo. There is a copula on top of both stations.
