Project Description

On a single 11-acre site nestled between two wetlands, Stewart-Cooper-Newell’s design for this Public Safety Training Center fully addressed the diverse and unique needs of three different owners.

With a wide array of training resources located here, the Center meets the needs of Cape Fear Community College’s Truck Driving Program, Basic Law Enforcement Training Program (BLET), and Firefighter courses.

The City of Wilmington’s and New Hanover County’s professional training programs for their Police, Sheriff and Fire & EMS services, respectively, are also all held on this site and fully accommodated.

The Training Facility includes classrooms, a driving pad, drafting pits, an apparatus building, a commercial live fire training building, a 7-story drill tower and USAR training grounds.

Capabilities & Features:

  • 7-story, 8700 SF Drill Tower, constructed of steel, post and beam system with brick cladding and concrete roof
  • 2-story, 6000 SF Commercial Burn Building, constructed of reinforced concrete post and beam system
  • 1-story, 1555 SF Residential Burn Building
  • 1-story, 288 SF Tear Gas Building
  • 2-story, 256 SF Control Tower
  • Extrication Pad (Vehicles)
  • Compressed Gas Simulation Pad
  • Truck Driver Training Pad
  • 7100 SF Apparatus Maintenance Building
